IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe an advertisement which introduced a product you have seen.

May - Aug

You should say:

  • When and where you saw the advertisement
  • What the product was
  • How you liked the advertisement
  • And explain how you felt about it

Sample Answer

I remember seeing an advertisement for a new smartphone last year while watching TV at home. It was during a popular talent show, and the ad caught my attention because it was very colorful and lively. The product was the latest model of a well-known brand, and it had many exciting features like a great camera and long battery life. What I liked most about the advertisement was how it showed real people using the phone in everyday situations. For example, a young woman was taking beautiful photos of her vacation, and a businessman was using the phone for work. The ad made the phone look very useful and fun. The background music was also catchy, and it made me feel happy and excited. After watching the ad, I felt curious about the phone and even visited the brand’s website to learn more. Although I didn’t buy it right away, the advertisement left a strong impression on me. It was creative and made the product seem like something I would enjoy using. Overall, I thought it was a very effective advertisement because it was simple, clear, and memorable.

Tips & Strategies

To answer the IELTS Speaking Part 2 question about describing an advertisement, follow this approach: First, structure your answer clearly. Start by mentioning when and where you saw the ad—like 'last month on TV' or 'on a billboard while commuting.' Then, describe the product being advertised, keeping it simple, like 'a new smartphone' or 'a tasty snack.' Next, explain how you liked the ad—maybe it was funny, creative, or memorable. Finally, share how it made you feel—excited, curious, or even skeptical. Remember to use natural language, like you're telling a story to a friend. Keep your grammar simple but accurate, and don’t rush—take your time to cover all the points. Practice by recording yourself to check fluency and coherence. Good luck!
