IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe a skill that you think you can teach other people

May - Aug

You should say:

  • What it is
  • Who you can teach
  • How you can teach others
  • And explain how you feel about teaching others

Sample Answer

One skill I believe I can teach others is how to bake simple cakes. I have been baking for about three years now, and I love making cakes for my family and friends. They always say my cakes are delicious, so I think I could share this skill with others. I could teach this to anyone who is interested in baking, especially beginners. For example, my younger cousin wants to learn how to bake, and I think it would be fun to teach her. Also, I could help my classmates or neighbors who enjoy cooking. To teach this skill, I would start by showing them the basic ingredients like flour, sugar, eggs, and butter. Then, I would demonstrate how to mix everything together step by step. I would also explain how to use an oven safely. We could practice together, and I would give them tips to make their cakes taste better. Teaching others makes me feel happy and proud. When I see someone learn something new because of me, it gives me a warm feeling. I also enjoy spending time with people while sharing something I love. It’s a great way to connect with others and help them discover a fun hobby.

Tips & Strategies

When answering the IELTS Speaking Part 2 question about describing a skill you can teach others, here's a simple way to structure your response. First, introduce the skill—what it is and why you're good at it. For example, if it's cooking, mention a dish you make well. Next, talk about who you could teach, like friends, family, or even classmates. Then, explain how you'd teach them—maybe by showing step-by-step, giving tips, or practicing together. Finally, share how you feel about teaching. Do you enjoy helping others? Does it make you proud? Keep it natural and personal. Remember to cover all the points: what the skill is, who you can teach, how you'd teach, and your feelings about it. Practice speaking for 2 minutes without stopping, and use linking words like 'first,' 'then,' and 'finally' to keep your answer smooth. Good luck!
