IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe a piece of technology you own that you feel difficult to use.

You should say:

  • What it is
  • When you got it
  • How often you use it
  • And explain how you feel about it

Sample Answer

One piece of technology I find difficult to use is my smartwatch. I got it as a birthday gift from my brother last year. At first, I was very excited because it looked stylish and had many features like tracking steps, heart rate, and even answering calls. However, I soon realized it was not as easy to use as I thought. I use it almost every day, but only for basic things like checking the time or counting my steps. The more advanced features, like setting up notifications or syncing it with my phone, are confusing for me. I often have to ask my brother for help, and even then, I forget how to do it the next time. What makes it frustrating is that the touchscreen is very sensitive, and sometimes it reacts to things I didn’t even tap. Once, I accidentally called someone while trying to turn off an alarm! I feel a bit embarrassed because everyone else seems to use their smartwatches without any problems. But I’m trying to learn step by step, and hopefully, one day, I’ll master it.

Tips & Strategies

Alright, let's tackle this IELTS Speaking Part 2 question step by step. First, structure your answer clearly: start by naming the tech gadget you find tricky (like a smartwatch or a fancy coffee machine). Mention when you got it—maybe a gift last year or something you bought yourself. Then, talk about how often you use it—is it daily, weekly, or just occasionally? Finally, dive into your feelings: do you get frustrated, confused, or maybe even amused by it? Try to give examples, like struggling with settings or needing help from others. Keep it natural, like you're chatting with a friend. Don’t worry about perfect grammar—focus on fluency and covering all the points. Practice timing yourself to fit within 2 minutes. You got this!
