IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe a photo that is special to you.

You should say:

  • When and where it was taken
  • Who are in the photo
  • Why it is special to you
  • And explain whether you will keep it for a long time

Sample Answer

One of my favorite photos was taken about five years ago during a family trip to the beach. It was a sunny day, and we were all laughing and having fun. The photo was taken by my older sister, who is really good at capturing special moments. In the photo, you can see me, my parents, and my younger brother. We are all standing near the water, with big smiles on our faces. My brother is holding a small sandcastle he made, and my dad has his arm around my mom. The background shows the blue ocean and a clear sky, which makes the photo even more beautiful. This photo is very special to me because it reminds me of a happy time when my whole family was together. We don’t get to go on trips often, so this memory is very precious. Every time I look at the photo, it makes me feel warm and happy inside. I will definitely keep this photo for a long time. I have it framed in my room, and sometimes I show it to my friends. It’s not just a picture; it’s a memory I want to hold onto forever.

Tips & Strategies

When answering the IELTS Speaking Part 2 question about a special photo, here's how to structure your response: First, briefly mention when and where the photo was taken—like a family vacation last summer or a birthday party at home. Then, describe who’s in the photo, such as your family, friends, or even a pet. Next, explain why this photo is special to you—maybe it captures a happy memory, a milestone, or someone important. Finally, say whether you’ll keep it for a long time and why—like because it reminds you of good times or you want to show it to future generations. Remember to speak naturally, use simple words, and connect your ideas smoothly. Focus on the details to make your answer interesting, and don’t forget to cover all the points in the question!
