IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe a life long goal you would like to achieve.

You should say:

  • What the goal is
  • How long you have had this goal
  • How you will achieve it
  • And explain why you set this goal

Sample Answer

One of my lifelong goals is to travel to every continent in the world. I have had this dream since I was a teenager, about 10 years ago, when I read a book about different cultures and places. It made me realize how big and diverse the world is, and I wanted to experience it firsthand. To achieve this goal, I plan to save money regularly and take at least one international trip every year. I also want to learn more about the history and customs of each place before I visit, so I can appreciate it fully. For example, last year, I went to South America for the first time, and it was amazing to see the Amazon rainforest and meet local people. I set this goal because I believe traveling helps us grow as individuals. It teaches us about different ways of life and makes us more open-minded. Plus, it’s exciting to explore new places and create unforgettable memories. Even though it might take many years, I’m determined to make it happen.

Tips & Strategies

When answering the IELTS Speaking Part 2 question about a lifelong goal, start by clearly stating what your goal is—like becoming a doctor, traveling the world, or starting a business. Mention how long you've had this goal, whether it's been since childhood or a recent dream. Next, explain your plan to achieve it, such as studying hard, saving money, or gaining experience. Finally, share why this goal matters to you—maybe it's a passion, a way to help others, or a personal challenge. Keep your answer structured but natural, and don't forget to use simple words and grammar to sound fluent. Practice speaking about it smoothly, and focus on connecting your ideas logically. Good luck!
