IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe a film that made you laugh

May - Aug

You should say:

  • What it is
  • When and where you watched it
  • Who you watched it with
  • And explain why it made you laugh

Sample Answer

One film that made me laugh a lot is "The Hangover." I watched it about five years ago at home with my best friend. We were looking for something funny to watch on a lazy Saturday afternoon, and this movie seemed perfect. The story is about a group of friends who go to Las Vegas for a bachelor party. They wake up the next morning with no memory of the night before, and one of them is missing. The rest of the movie is about them trying to figure out what happened. The situations they get into are so ridiculous that I couldn’t stop laughing. For example, one of them accidentally marries a stranger, and another one finds a tiger in their hotel room! My friend and I laughed so hard that we had to pause the movie a few times. The acting and the jokes were just hilarious. Even now, when I think about some scenes, I still smile. It’s the kind of movie that makes you forget your problems and just enjoy the moment. That’s why it’s one of my favorite comedies.

Tips & Strategies

To answer the question 'Describe a film that made you laugh,' start by introducing the film and saying when and where you watched it. For example, you could say, 'I watched this hilarious comedy last summer at home with my friends.' Next, mention who you watched it with—maybe your family, friends, or even alone. Then, focus on why it made you laugh. Talk about the funny scenes, the characters, or the jokes that stood out to you. Try to describe one or two specific moments that really made you laugh, like a silly mistake by the main character or a clever punchline. Keep your answer natural and relaxed, like you're telling a story to a friend. Remember to use simple words and grammar, and don't worry about making it perfect—just be clear and expressive. Practice timing yourself to make sure your answer is about 1-2 minutes long. Good luck!
