IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe an interesting decision that you and your friend made together.

May - Aug

You should say:

  • When and why you made the decision
  • What the decision was about
  • Why you made the decision together
  • And explain why you think it was interesting

Sample Answer

Last summer, my friend and I had to make an important decision about our holiday plans. We both had two weeks off from work and wanted to do something fun but also meaningful. After discussing for a while, we decided to volunteer at a wildlife rescue center in another city. This was a big decision because it meant giving up a relaxing beach holiday for hard work. But we both love animals and thought it would be a great experience. The decision was about where to go and what to do during our break. We made it together because we always plan trips as a team, and this time, we wanted to try something different. What made it interesting was how unexpected it was. At first, we were just joking about volunteering, but the more we talked, the more excited we got. In the end, it turned out to be one of the best decisions we ever made. We learned so much, met amazing people, and even helped save some animals. It was a holiday we will never forget!

When answering the IELTS Speaking Part 2 question about 'Describe an interesting decision that you and your friend made together,' here's how to structure your response. First, set the scene by saying when and why you made the decision—like last summer or during a trip. Then, explain what the decision was about, such as choosing a place to visit or trying something new. Next, talk about why you made it together—maybe because you both had strong opinions or wanted to share the experience. Finally, explain why it was interesting—perhaps it led to a fun adventure or taught you something new. Keep it simple and natural, like telling a story to a friend.
