IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe a time when you made a plan to do an activity with a lot of people.

May - Aug

You should say:

  • What the activity was
  • When and where you made the plan
  • And explain how you felt about the plan

Sample Answer

One time, I planned a picnic in the park with my friends and their families. It was a sunny day in June, and we wanted to enjoy the weather together. The idea came up during a casual chat at a coffee shop near our office. We decided to invite around 20 people, including friends, their kids, and even some coworkers. First, we chose a date and a park that was easy for everyone to reach. Then, we made a list of things to bring, like food, drinks, and games. I was in charge of organizing the food, so I asked everyone to bring something to share. Some people volunteered to bring sandwiches, others brought fruit, and I made a big salad. On the day of the picnic, I felt excited but also a little nervous. I worried that something might go wrong, like bad weather or forgetting something important. But when everyone arrived, it was amazing! The kids played games, the adults talked and laughed, and the food was delicious. I felt really happy because the plan worked out perfectly, and everyone had a great time. It was a simple activity, but it brought us all closer together.

Tips & Strategies

To answer the IELTS Speaking Part 2 question about describing a time you made a plan for a group activity, here's a simple approach. First, structure your answer clearly: start with what the activity was (like a picnic or a sports event), then say when and where you planned it (e.g., last summer with friends at a café). Finally, explain how you felt—excited, nervous, or proud. Cover all three points the question asks for. Remember to use past tense and descriptive words to make it vivid. Practice speaking smoothly, and don’t rush. Keep it natural, like telling a story to a friend!
