IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe a time when you enjoyed an impressive English lesson.

May - Aug

You should say:

  • When and where you had the lesson
  • Who gave you the lesson
  • What the lesson was about
  • And explain why you enjoyed the lesson

Sample Answer

I remember an amazing English lesson I had about two years ago in my high school. It was a sunny afternoon, and the class was held in our school's language lab, which had comfortable chairs and big screens for learning. The lesson was given by Mr. Johnson, our English teacher. He was very friendly and always made learning fun. That day, the lesson was about storytelling. Mr. Johnson taught us how to tell a good story using simple words and expressions. He showed us a short video of a funny story first, and then we practiced telling our own stories in pairs. What made this lesson special was how interactive it was. Instead of just listening, we got to act out parts of the story and even change the ending. Mr. Johnson encouraged everyone to speak, and he laughed at our jokes, which made us feel confident. I also remember he used colorful pictures and music to make the lesson more interesting. I enjoyed this lesson because it didn’t feel like work. It was fun, and I learned a lot without even realizing it. By the end, I felt more comfortable speaking English, and I still use some of the storytelling tips Mr. Johnson taught us. It was one of the best English lessons I’ve ever had!

Tips & Strategies

To answer the IELTS Speaking Part 2 question about an impressive English lesson, start by organizing your thoughts into a clear structure. First, mention when and where the lesson happened—like a specific time in school or online. Then, talk about the teacher or instructor who gave the lesson, maybe their name or why they stood out. Next, describe what the lesson was about—was it grammar, vocabulary, or a fun activity? Finally, explain why you enjoyed it. Maybe it was interactive, made you confident, or had cool visuals. Keep your answer smooth and natural, like telling a story. Practice speaking for 1-2 minutes, and don’t forget to include all the points: when/where, who, what, and why you liked it. Focus on fluency and details to impress the examiner!
