IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe a time when people near you made a lot of noise.

You should say:

  • Where you heard the noise
  • Who made the noise
  • How you reacted to the noise
  • And explain how you felt about the noise

Sample Answer

One time, I was studying in my room when I heard a lot of noise coming from outside. It was a Saturday afternoon, and my neighbors were having a big party in their backyard. They had invited many friends, and the noise was from people laughing, talking loudly, and playing music. At first, I tried to ignore it and focus on my books, but the noise kept getting louder. I even closed my windows, but it didn’t help much. After a while, I decided to go outside and politely ask them to lower the volume because I needed to study. They were very understanding and turned the music down. I felt relieved and went back to my room. Although I was a bit annoyed at first, I also understood that everyone enjoys having fun sometimes. In the end, I was glad that the situation was resolved peacefully, and I could continue my work without further disturbance.

Tips & Strategies

When answering the IELTS Speaking Part 2 question about a time when people near you made a lot of noise, here's how you can structure your response. First, start by setting the scene—describe where you were when the noise happened, like at home, in a park, or at a party. Then, mention who was making the noise, such as neighbors, kids, or a crowd. Next, explain how you reacted—did you ask them to quiet down, ignore it, or leave the place? Finally, share how you felt about the noise—were you annoyed, amused, or maybe even scared? Keep your answer natural and personal, like you're telling a story to a friend. Use simple words and grammar, and don't forget to include all the points: where, who, your reaction, and your feelings. Practice speaking for about 1-2 minutes, and try to sound relaxed and confident!
