May - Aug

You should say:

  • Who this person is
  • What he/she grows
  • Where he/she grows them
  • And explain why he/she enjoys this activity

Sample Answer

I’d like to talk about my neighbor, Mrs. Green. She’s a retired teacher who has a huge passion for growing plants. Her garden is always full of life, and she spends most of her time there. Mrs. Green grows all sorts of things, like tomatoes, carrots, and beautiful roses. She also has a small herb garden with mint, basil, and parsley. Her backyard is like a mini farm, and she even grows some strawberries in pots on her balcony. She grows them in her backyard, which gets plenty of sunlight. She’s turned it into a colorful and productive space. She also uses her balcony for smaller plants because it’s easier to take care of them there. Mrs. Green enjoys this activity because it keeps her busy and happy. She says gardening helps her relax and forget about her worries. She also loves sharing her harvest with neighbors, like giving us fresh tomatoes or herbs. It’s her way of spreading joy. I remember once she gave me a bunch of roses for my birthday, and it made my day. Gardening isn’t just a hobby for her; it’s a way to connect with nature and people.

Tips & Strategies

When answering the IELTS Speaking Part 2 question about a person who loves growing plants, start by introducing who the person is—maybe a family member, friend, or neighbor. Then, describe what they grow, like vegetables, fruits, or flowers, and mention where they grow them, such as in a garden, balcony, or even indoors. Finally, explain why they enjoy this activity—maybe it relaxes them, gives them fresh food, or connects them to nature. Structure your answer clearly: 1) Who, 2) What, 3) Where, 4) Why. Keep it natural and personal, like telling a story. Don’t rush, and use simple words you’re comfortable with. Practice speaking for 1-2 minutes, and focus on fluency and coherence.
