IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe a noisy place you have been to.

May - Aug

You should say:

  • What it is
  • When you went there
  • What you did there
  • And explain why you feel it is a noisy place

Sample Answer

One noisy place I remember visiting is a busy shopping mall in the city center. I went there last summer during a weekend sale. The mall was packed with people, and the noise was overwhelming. I went there with my friends to buy some clothes and enjoy the food court. While we were shopping, we could hear loud music playing from the stores, people talking loudly, and children running around screaming. The food court was even noisier, with the sound of dishes clattering, people laughing, and announcements over the loudspeaker. What made it especially noisy was the combination of all these sounds at once. It felt like everyone was trying to talk over each other, and the echoes in the mall made everything louder. Even though it was fun to be there with my friends, I remember feeling exhausted by the noise after a few hours. I think the mall is a noisy place because it’s always crowded, and there are so many activities happening at the same time. It’s a lively place, but definitely not quiet!

Tips & Strategies

When answering the IELTS Speaking Part 2 question about a noisy place, here's how you can structure your response: First, introduce the place and say what it is—maybe a busy market, a concert, or a construction site. Then, mention when you went there, like last summer or during a festival. Next, talk about what you did there—were you shopping, watching a performance, or just passing by? Finally, explain why it was noisy—was it because of loud music, crowds, or machinery? Keep your answer natural and relaxed, like you're telling a story to a friend. Use simple words and grammar, and don't forget to include details to make your answer interesting. For example, describe the sounds you heard or how the noise made you feel. Practice speaking for about 1-2 minutes, and make sure you cover all the points in the question. Good luck!
