IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe a city you have been to and would like to visit again.

May - Aug

You should say:

  • Where it is
  • When you visited it
  • What you did there
  • And explain why you would like to visit it again

Sample Answer

One city I would love to visit again is Kyoto, Japan. I went there in the spring of 2019, and it was an unforgettable experience. Kyoto is located in the central part of Japan, and it’s famous for its beautiful temples, gardens, and traditional culture. When I visited, I spent my days exploring places like the Fushimi Inari Shrine, with its thousands of red torii gates, and the golden Kinkaku-ji Temple. I also tried traditional tea ceremonies and wore a kimono while walking through the historic streets of Gion. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom, and the whole city looked like a painting. What I loved most about Kyoto was the peaceful atmosphere. Unlike busy cities like Tokyo, Kyoto felt calm and full of history. The people were very kind, and the food, especially matcha desserts and sushi, was amazing. I would like to visit Kyoto again because I feel like I only scratched the surface of what the city has to offer. There are so many more temples to see, and I’d love to experience the autumn leaves, which are supposed to be breathtaking. Kyoto is a place where you can truly feel the heart of Japan, and I can’t wait to go back.

Tips & Strategies

To answer the IELTS Speaking Part 2 question about a city you'd like to visit again, start by introducing the city and where it is. For example, 'I’d love to talk about Tokyo, the capital of Japan.' Then, mention when you visited it, like 'I went there two years ago during the summer.' Next, describe what you did there—maybe you explored famous spots, tried local food, or met friendly people. Finally, explain why you want to go back. Maybe it’s because of the amazing culture, the food, or something special you missed. Keep your answer smooth and natural, like telling a story. Don’t rush, and make sure to cover all the points: location, time, activities, and reasons to return. Practice speaking slowly and clearly, and use simple words you’re comfortable with. Remember, it’s not about fancy vocabulary but about sharing your experience clearly and confidently!
