IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

Describe A Film Character Played By An Actor Or Actress Whom You Admire

You should say:

  • Who this actor/actress is
  • When you saw the film
  • What the character was like in this film
  • And explain why you admire this actor/actress

Sample Answer

One actor I really admire is Tom Hanks. I first saw him in the movie "Forrest Gump" a few years ago, and his performance left a deep impression on me. In the film, he played the role of Forrest Gump, a kind-hearted and simple man with a low IQ but a big heart. Despite his challenges, Forrest achieves amazing things in life, like becoming a football star, a war hero, and a successful businessman. His innocence and honesty make him a very lovable character. What I admire most about Tom Hanks is how he brings Forrest to life. He makes the character feel real and relatable, even though Forrest is quite different from most people. Tom Hanks shows a wide range of emotions in the film, from joy to sadness, and he does it all so naturally. His acting is so good that you forget he’s just playing a role. Another reason I admire him is his versatility. He has played many different types of characters, from a castaway in "Cast Away" to a friendly toy in "Toy Story." No matter the role, he always gives his best. Tom Hanks is not just a great actor but also a humble and kind person in real life, which makes me respect him even more.

Tips & Strategies

To answer this question, start by introducing the actor or actress you admire and the film they starred in. Mention when you watched the film—whether it was recently or a long time ago—to give context. Then, describe the character they played: what made them stand out, their personality, or their role in the story. Finally, explain why you admire the actor or actress—maybe it's their acting skills, how they brought the character to life, or their dedication to their craft. Keep your answer structured but natural, like you're telling a story. For example, you could say: 'I really admire [Actor's Name] because of their role in [Film Name]. I saw it [when you watched it], and their character was [describe the character]. What I admire most is [reason—like their emotion or versatility].' Remember to use simple words and connect your ideas smoothly.
