IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

A public event you have attended

You should say:

  • what the event was
  • where it took place
  • what you did there
  • and how you felt about the event

Sample Answer

Last year, I attended a music festival in my city. It was called "Sunshine Beats," and it took place in a big park near the downtown area. The festival lasted for two days, and there were many people there, enjoying the music and the sunny weather. At the festival, I listened to live performances by different bands and singers. My favorite was a local band that played pop songs. I also tried some delicious food from the food trucks, like burgers and ice cream. I went with my friends, and we danced and sang along to the music. It was so much fun! What I loved most about the event was the happy atmosphere. Everyone was smiling and having a good time. The music was loud, and the energy was amazing. I felt excited and relaxed at the same time. It was a great way to spend the weekend with friends, and I would definitely go again next year.

Tips & Strategies

When answering the IELTS Speaking Part 2 question about 'A public event you have attended,' here's how you can structure your response naturally. First, introduce the event—what it was (e.g., a concert, festival, or sports game). Then, mention where it happened (city, venue). Next, describe what you did there—maybe you watched performances, ate food, or met friends. Finally, share how you felt—excited, happy, or even surprised. Keep it simple and personal, like telling a story to a friend. Focus on smooth transitions between points, and don’t forget to use past tense since it’s about something you experienced. Practice timing to ensure your answer lasts about 1-2 minutes. Good luck!
