IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

A person you know who likes to talk a lot

You should say:

  • Who this person is
  • How you knew this person
  • What he/she usually talks about
  • And explain how you feel about him/her

Sample Answer

One person I know who loves to talk a lot is my neighbor, Mrs. Johnson. She is a retired teacher in her late 60s, and she has lived next door to me for almost 10 years. I first met her when I moved into the neighborhood, and she came over to welcome me with a plate of homemade cookies. From that day on, she has always been very friendly and chatty. Mrs. Johnson talks about almost everything! She loves sharing stories about her teaching days, her family, and even the latest gossip in the neighborhood. Sometimes, she talks about her garden and the flowers she grows. She can go on for hours without stopping, and it’s almost impossible to interrupt her once she starts. Honestly, I have mixed feelings about her. On one hand, she is very kind and always tries to help others. Her stories can be interesting, especially when she talks about her travels. But on the other hand, it can be a bit exhausting when I’m in a hurry or just want some quiet time. However, I still appreciate her warmth and the way she makes the neighborhood feel like a big family.

Tips & Strategies

For the IELTS Speaking Part 2 question about 'A person you know who likes to talk a lot,' here's how to structure your answer: First, introduce the person—maybe a friend, family member, or coworker—and say how you met them, like through school or work. Next, describe what they usually talk about—it could be their hobbies, opinions, or even gossip. Then, explain how you feel about them—do you enjoy their conversations, or do they sometimes annoy you? Make sure to use simple words and natural grammar, like you're telling a story to a friend. Keep your answer around 150–200 words, and don't forget to cover all the points: who they are, how you know them, what they talk about, and your feelings. Practice speaking smoothly and confidently!
