IELTS Speaking Part 2 Question

A person who is good at making people feel welcome in his or her home

You should say:

  • Who he/she is
  • When and how you met him/her
  • How he/she welcomes visitors
  • And explain why you think he/she is good at welcoming visitors

Sample Answer

The person I want to talk about is my aunt, Sarah. She is my mother’s younger sister, and she has a special talent for making everyone feel at home. I met her when I was a child because she often visited our family, and later, I started visiting her house too. Sarah welcomes visitors in the warmest way. As soon as you step into her house, she greets you with a big smile and a hug. She always offers you something to drink or eat, like tea and homemade cookies. She makes sure you are comfortable, asking if you need anything or if the temperature in the room is okay. She also remembers small details about people, like their favorite snacks or topics they enjoy talking about, and she brings them up in conversation. One time, I brought a friend to her house, and my friend felt nervous because she didn’t know anyone. But Sarah quickly made her feel relaxed by asking about her hobbies and sharing funny stories. By the end of the visit, my friend said she felt like part of the family. I think Sarah is good at welcoming visitors because she genuinely cares about people. She pays attention to their needs and makes them feel important. Her kindness and thoughtfulness create a welcoming atmosphere that everyone enjoys.
